Warrior: Mike Tirico Tore His Achilles Early In The Week, Still Showed Up In A Boot To Call Sunday Night Football
Warrior. Hero. Whatever you word you want to describe someone showing up to work, talk a little ball in a boot with a torn Achilles is applicable here. I know I might be in the minority here, but I think you earn some much deserved praise for doing this exact thing.
Now, we don't know the whole story here. Not sure what Mike Tirico was doing to tear his Achilles, I'd assume it wasn't as grueling as playing 3-on-3 basketball for a prestigious office Olympic event. But nonetheless, a torn Achilles sucks. Living in a boot sucks. I'm still in mine, window to get out of it opens up next month and we see from there. You're just constantly dragging your leg around, learning how to sleep with the boot on and basically limping around. Yeah, he has the scooter but the scooter is arguably more annoying.
And don't even get me started on the calf raises and process to learn how to use it all again. My calf basically looks like a tire pump. Now you have Tirico calling 3 games in 8 days, propping his foot up on the box Collinsworth stands on or uses. This is a true pro's pro. A man who won't miss calling a game just because he popped an Achilles. Can't believe he wasn't on the injury report. Need to know if he's finishing the season or getting operated on, could change how we view SNF going forward.
